Wilderness Retreat Required!

Some days need a total back-to-nature approach and time to decompress as a family. Get muddy and explore amongst trees and nature!

Urban Wilderness in Surrey, Delta and White Rock

Here are five favourites to reconnect with the adventurer within:

  1. Green Timbers Urban Forest – This well named oasis is truly an urban forest. Over 10 kilometers of trails wind around a fully-stocked lake in the heart of Surrey. Check out the interactive indoor space at the Surrey Nature Centre or borrow an activity backpack to self-guide a nature walk. Outside, the giant tree stump and pole forest inspire imaginative play.
  2. Burns Bog – What better place to escape city life than the largest undeveloped urban wilderness in North America? Bouncing on the springy peat will delight the child within everyone. The winding wooden boardwalk twists amongst trees and unique plants.
  3. Ruth Johnson Park – Trails wind through this lush patch of green and connect to the White Rock shoreline. Low trees and plentiful ferns dot the banks of a charming creek, and the park trails gently weave down to the beach.
  4. Surrey Lake Park – A lovely lake surprises at this park just off of a busy thoroughfare. Discover meadows, forest and wetlands.  Kids will delight in the many animal spotting opportunities, including frogs, salmon, ducks, eagles, and deer.
  5. Redwood Park – Discover a stunning grove of Sierra Redwoods in this most spectacular wooded haven. This park is the result of the passion project by pioneering twins, the Brown brothers, who lived in a treehouse in the park. Don’t miss the Fairy Village

These parks are truly four-season destinations, with maintained trails, lots of tree canopy to protect from rain and sun, and easily accessible by major routes. A perfect opportunity to recharge and reconnect, with nature and each other.
