White Rock’s East Beach

The White Rock Pier & Promenade is a classic destination. But don’t miss the laid back and family-friendly East Beach. Separated from the West Beach shoreline by a hilly rise known as “the Hump” to locals, East Beach is less known but full of Kid Approved activities and restaurants.

Beaches are an obviously popular summer activity, but don’t miss the chance to enjoy the sandy expanse during the quieter months. In the summer, East Beach is ideal for swimming as the tide rolls in over the warm sand, creating shallow pools to safely swim and splash.

In the cooler months, pull on a pair of gumboots. Hunt crabs under the rocks, search for treasures amongst the sea grass and beachcomb in the tidal pools. Sandcastles are year-round sport, and the texture of the sand when the tide rolls out is perfect for creations.

Totem Park is one of many great places to access the beach. Look for the two totem poles commemorating 125 years of RCMP service in the area. The Ka’Kan totem pole represents the Coast Salish Semiahmoo peoples. The adjacent Hiada Gya Ana pole is emblematic of family status and heritage.

Do not miss Terry Parr Plaza at the foot of the Ash Street walkway, opposite the beach. This lovely corner offers a shady spot to enjoy an ice cream, or pick up a hot chocolate and get cozy on one of the benches. Be sure to bring a book to leave in the free outdoor library.

When it’s time to eat, some of White Rock’s best rated restaurants can be found at this end of the beach. Moby Dick is a fish & chips fixture, crammed with curios, pictures and treasures from shores abroad. The Washington Avenue Grill offers west coast cuisine in an upscale setting and brags the best views on the beach. For a quick ice cream, try the always popular Crazy Cows.

Fly a kite, dig, climb, play and explore! Connect as a family in this beautiful destination.
