‘Tis the season… and families are spoilt for choice with fun, festive (and some free) events throughout the month of December. Here is a Kid Approved round up of what is happening in Surrey, Delta and White Rock. Seasons greetings to all!
Kid Approved Guide to December Events
Surrey
The Bear Creek Park Christmas Train is a classic holiday event. The miniature train wends its way through an extravagant light display in the forest of Bear Creek park. Popcorn, hot chocolate, crafts and of course, Santa!
Winterfest is hosted annually by the City of Surrey, and brings families together to craft, decorate cookies, games, sports challenges and a photo booth. This free event happens December 16, 10-1 at Guildford Recreation Centre.
Experience a Pioneer Christmas at the Historic Stewart Farmhouse on December 9, 11-3. Discover Victorian era decorations, real figgy pudding and warm apple cider fresh from the woodstove. Try the Pole Barn scavenger hunt and listen to the classic carolling.
Sinbad, The Pirate and the Dinosaur is fun-filled theatrical experience that will engage audiences of all ages. Running through December at the Surrey Art Centre, this is a perfect family activity and will lead to belly laughs for all. And for the first time outside of Vancouver, a relaxed performance will be offered, “Relaxed performances are designed to welcome patrons who might benefit from a more relaxed environment, including—but not limited to—people on the autism spectrum, with sensory and communication disorders, or learning disabilities.”
Delta
Celebrate Christmas with A Gift of Light, hosted by the Tsawwassen Rotary at Diefenbaker on December 3rd, 3-5:30. Santa will arrive with his friends from the Delta Fire Department for photos with all, and don’t miss horse drawn trolley rides around the park.
Or visit the big guy with A Morning with Santa – he’s coming to both the North and South Delta Recreation Centres. Skating, pancakes, crafts and Santa! How can you go wrong?

Get festive with Winter Wonderland Skates at the North + South Delta Recreation Centres. Twinkly lights, decorations and carols create a winter wonderland of for skating.

White Rock
The 22nd annual Breakfast with Santa is hosted by the White Rock Firefighters, Dec 2 from 8-12. Fill the tummies with a bang up pancakes breakfast and get pictures with Santa, all proceeds supporting local charities and the Fire Fighter’s Burn Fund.

White Rock library is hosting Christmas Craft Fun on Wednesday, December 13 from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm. Come after school and make ornaments to keep or gift to friends and family.
The White Rock Players Club presents their annual pantomime throughout December – The Hunchback of Notre Panto. This riff on a classic is full of fun and sly humour.
