This lovely secret beach access point is tucked away in a residential neighbourhood in South Surrey’s Ocean Park. While not exactly 1001 steps, the long, tiered wooden staircase wends down through thick greenery for a unique approach to the beautiful beach below.
Off the Beaten Path with Kid Approved
This less-trafficked beach reached by 1001 Steps is an ideal place for spotting a huge variety of marine life. The rocks hide a plethora of creatures with their wet, shady protection.
Bald eagles perch along the shoreline and chatter to each other as they search for crabs. Urchins, molluscs and starfish cling to the sides of rocks. At certain times of year, spawning fish can be found in the shallow pools under and around the rocks. Turn one over to discover crabs of all sizes, from the teeniest to big pinchers. Be sure to gently replace the rocks to protect the creatures beneath from the hot sun and hungry eagles.

Know Before You Go
The slightly challenging access makes this a delightfully un-busy place for kids to roam with total freedom. The only drawback is a lack of services at the beach. Be sure to use the bathroom, bring water & snacks and carry out any garbage.
This beach recommended for kids who are steady on their feet and capable of clambering over rocks. It’s not ideal for toddlers due to the rocks and is without baby-friendly sandy patches. Wear waterproof shoes like Crocs or rubber boots depending on the time of year of the visit.
Local Eats
Quiet Ocean Park Village is a great place to stock up on food to take to the beach. The Kid Approved Healthy Monkey Cafe has a location only minutes away, or grab a pizza from the locally owned Ocean Park Village Pub & Pizza. Families are welcome to eat-in on the restaurant side, and the menu is full of classic kid favourites.
